If I Could Turn Back Time . . . .

As I sat down to write this post, that title immediately popped into my head. Then, even though I am not a big fan of Cher, I also heard her voice singing the familiar refrain in my head. I bet you're hearing it now, too, huh? No? Well, here you go:

(You may want to avert your eyes and just listen since she is wearing one of her infamous "barely there" outfits.)

This past weekend, we got the chance, as we do every November, to actually turn back time. We got an extra hour, but sadly, that hour technically comes at 2:00am and doesn't really seem to do much good. But, what if?? What if we got an extra couple of hours EVERY DAY? What if days were 26 hours long? What could you do with those 2 extra hours?

There are quite a few things I can think of to do with that extra, imaginary time.

  1. Writing - I recently wrote about how I have been struggling to find time to write. Also, just today, I was talking with a friend about trying (and failing) to write every day which was one of my School Year Resolutions. If I had a couple extra hours, I would definitely want to spend it writing.
  2. Reading - I am not a big novel reader, but I love reading blogs and, just as I have been struggling to find time for writing, I have been struggling to find time for reading my favorite blogs, too. With some extra time each day, I could (hopefully) get caught up and stay that way.
  3. Sleep - It is no secret that I am not a morning person. However, I am not a night owl either. I need a good solid 8 hours on a regular basis to feel well. Some nights, I'm lucky to get 6 hours, so having a couple extra to add on would be great!
  4. Relax - It seems I rarely just sit and mindlessly watch TV. My mind is always buzzing with the things I should  be doing. With a couple superfluous hours to get all the things crossed off my to do list, maybe I could actually relax for a change.
  5. Go Shopping - There is one store I have been wanting to go to for a couple weeks now, but it is across town and I haven't been able to find time. If had 120 more minutes each day, I might be able to squeeze it in! Not to mention all that Christmas shopping that I really should be getting started on!
  6. Freezer meals - Have you seen those posts where they give you recipes for freezer meals? You are supposed to spend just a couple hours on Sunday afternoon chopping, prepping, and freezing everything. Then, on the weekdays, you just pull out a bag, dump it in a pan, and Voila! - dinner is done.
  7. Watch a movie - Can you name the last non-kid movie you watched? I can't. I saw, however, that Silver Linings Playbook  is currently on Netflix and I have wanted to see it since it came out.
  8. Organizing - I am so tired of plastic containers falling on my head every time I open the pantry door. If only I had a little additional time to sort it all out and organize it! And the kids' closets. And my closet. And my underwear drawer. And the junk drawer. And  . . . . . .you get the idea.
  9. Cleaning - Okay, this is not how I would want to spend my time, but it is probably what I would honestly end up doing. There is never a shortage of laundry to do, dishes to wash, to toilets to scrub!
  10. Hang out with my hubby and kids - With busy schedules and a "go, go, go" mentality, there never seems to be enough time to just hang out together and enjoy each other's company.

What would you do if you had 26 hours each day instead of just 24???

Yes to so many of the above and as I told Rabia though this hour an't all it is cracked up to be and definitely hasn't helped give me more time to d much of the stuff I would like to do anyways. And now I am totally singing Cher's song :)

I almost added that video clip! LOL! I would love to have extra time to get things done, as long as it doesn't make me more tired during the day!

I have always wanted to try those freezer meals, and yet don't want to give up my Sunday afternoon! And Silver Linings Playbook is on my Netflix list...I am so excited! Now if I only had 2 extra hours to watch it....

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one with that song stuck in my head! :-)

That's true! I am usually completely spent by at least 9:00pm (sometimes earlier) and getting all these things done would require me to stay awake I suppose!

Exactly!!!

I was trying not to jam out and sing the Cher song as soon as I saw your title! Stopping by to say HI! It has been to long and you are sounding lovely as always! :-)

I was telling Rabia it would be more gentle and less rushed mornings, and more romantic evenings! That's my answer! I should say photo editing or writing but I think I do enough of that in the middle of the day.

I'm not sure I can forgive you for the Cher song. I mean of course I will but UGH um LISA!!! GROSS!!! *cough* moving on. Yeah. sleep. and all that other stuff too. Spending the time, doing the things. I feel sad at times that I don't have more time...

I LOVED Silver Linings Playbook. It is one of my favorite movies of all time.

I'm an early morning riser. I get up around 4:30-5:00 am everyday and have just about two hours to myself before I have to be a mom. I get SO much done! I usually have time to drink coffee, read my Bible, troll social media for a few minutes and then write! I get a good solid hour of writing in everyday this way!

Several of your time-spending items appear on my list as well and it sure would be nice to have the extra time to do them. I agree. I don't think any of us had a problem thinking up things we'd like to do with the extra time. That part was easy. Realizing, however, that we'll probably never have this extra time to do them - well that part was not so easy. :D

First off, Cher immediately came to mind when I read your title. When I'm still humming that song tonight when my head's on the pillow, I'll know who to thank. (Or blame.) :)
I found myself nodding along in agreement with your list, Lisa. Yes! I'd write. And read (just not student essays.) And I'd clean, sleep, relax, organize and shop, but probably not in that particular order.
But honestly, I'd probably just end up using the hours in the same way that I use my currently-available 24 each day. Fun to think about!

I would write - absolutely. I am failing miserably at carving out the time to do it. But really, I would probably just sleep. And thanks for the earworm - Cher will be in my dreams tonight!

Ha! As I read the title of this post, Cher immediately popped into mind!

Agreed with all of your points here, especially writing and relaxing!

I too, pine to make those freezer meals. I keep saying I'll do it but I never do.

Thanks for sharing.
