10 Totally Random Facts About Me! {#TuesdayTen}

Here in the blogosphere, we think we know each other pretty well. We share our lives here on the internet. We talk about our kids, our spouses, our homes, our jobs, our feelings, our good days, and our bad days. There are some people I have never met in person that I consider to be very good friends because I know them through their blogs and they know me, too. There are always limitations to what we can share, though, when we are putting it "all out there" and there are, of course, things we would just never think to share because they seem pretty insignificant or they are just such a part of us we don't realize that other people might not know.

Today, for Tuesday Ten, we thought it would be fun to get to know each other a little better by sharing some completely random facts bout ourselves - things that other people probably don't know and would never think to ask!
  1. I don't like tomatoes or mushrooms. I will order food without them or pick them off if necessary.
  2. I wear a size 8 shoe. I used to wear a 7 1/2, but the first time I was pregnant, my feet got so swollen that I had to go up to a 8 1/2 Wide. They never went completely back to the original size. My oldest daughter now wears a 7 1/2 which kind of freaks me out a little.
  3. I didn't fly on an airplane until I was 21. It was for our honeymoon. We flew from NC to Florida to catch a cruise. Since then, I have flown several times including to San Francisco, Paris, and London!
  4. My favorite color is purple (in case you couldn't tell by the blog design) followed by pink (but dark pink) and green.
  5. My 20th high school reunion is scheduled for October 2015, but I'm not sure if I want to go. High school was not fun for me.
  6. When I was in high school, I played 3 sports - basketball, softball, and tennis. I wasn't particularly good at basketball or tennis because I don't have very quick feet. I was pretty good as a slow pitch softball pitcher because I could actually throw a slow pitch curve ball. I always wore #12 on my jerseys.
  7. I am claustrophobic (fear of small, tight spaces) and acrophobic (fear of heights). Both of these seem to be getting worse as I get older.
  8. I rarely eat seafood. When I was very newly pregnant for the third time, I was attending a holiday business dinner with my husband. We were served an appetizer sampler plate that included a large, cold crab claw. I bit into the crab meat (which I previously liked) and immediately wanted to vomit. That was over 8 years ago and I have never fully re-acquired my taste for seafood. I especially cannot tolerate anything cold (like shrimp cocktail) or anything raw (like sushi).
  9. I always sleep on the left side of the bed (if you are facing the headboard), but I always fall asleep laying on the right side of my body. If I wake up in the middle of the night, 9 times out of 10 I am on my back.
  10. According to this personality test, I am an ISTJ. Based on the summary description, I would say that's very accurate. Here's what it says about ISTJ's:
"The ISTJ personality type is thought to be the most abundant, making up around 13% of the population. Their defining characteristics of integrity, practical logic and tireless dedication to duty make ISTJs a vital core to many families, as well as organizations that uphold traditions, rules and standards, .. People with the ISTJ personality type enjoy taking responsibility for their actions, and take pride in the work they do - when working towards a goal, ISTJs hold back none of their time and energy completing each relevant task with accuracy and patience.
ISTJs don't make many assumptions, preferring instead to analyze their surroundings, check their facts and arrive at practical courses of action. ISTJ personalities are no-nonsense, and when they've made a decision, they will relay the facts necessary to achieve their goal, expecting others to grasp the situation immediately and take action. ISTJs have little tolerance for indecisiveness, but lose patience even more quickly if their chosen course is challenged with impractical theories, especially if they ignore key details - if challenges becomes time-consuming debates, ISTJs can become noticeably angry as deadlines tick nearer."
Yep - That's me in a nutshell!
Tell me your personality type or another random fact in the comments!

We definitely have a lot in common especially the side of the bed that I sleep is on the same as you, as well I didn't fly for the first time until my honeymoon, as well! 😉

According to this the only thing we have in common is what side of the bed we sleep on ;-) You and my family and those mushrooms and tomatoes. That puts so many limitations on recipes I want to try. Yesterday I made chicken marsala and did the mushrooms on the side because I love them so much. If you have chunky spaghetti sauce do you pick the tomatoes out too? I have flown since I was a baby with all of our family living up north. We used to fly a lot and then once my brother had to have his own seat then we started taking the train because it was cheaper. But I flew unaccompanied to Pennsylvania ever summer from at the least age 6. Can you imagine? There is no way I could do that with a child on mine in 2015. Welcome back!

We certainly do seem to have a lot in common, Janine!

Well, we both live in NC! :-) I cannot imagine putting my kids on a plane alone, although the truth is that, with all of today's safety measure, we are probably safer flying now than we were years ago!

HA! That is hilarious since we do so often seem to be thinking the same things! When I took the full Myers Briggs in high school I was an INFJ. Interesting to see how I have changed and how I haven't! :-)

Purple has always been a favourite colour of mine too! It's also the favourite colour of star sign - Sagittarius. So that's me to a T! :) I will have a go at the test a bit later :) Will let you know how I get on.

That's true on NC! ;-) As for flying a flight attendant accompanied to the next flight always. One time there was a layover in Atlanta and I was locked in this big room with some other kids. There wasn't any adult supervision so I don't know about that. But someone came to get us when it was time for our flight. I just remember the room having a snack machine, soda machine and a ping pong machine.

You and I sleep on the same side of the bed, and I don't love mushrooms, but I don't pick them out of my food either.

I'm scared of heights too. I don't even like standing on a step-stool. I've never, and will never, attend a high school reunion. If I wanted to keep in touch with any of them... they'd be on my Facebook. I swear shoes have gotten smaller because I use to be a women's size 5, and now that barely fits, so I usually have to get a 3 in youth. Since when did feet shrink?

Ginnymarie said...

The left is also my side of the bed! My husband won't let me ever sleep on the right side, even when we're on vacation.

Charlene said...

gahh I did the test and then the computer froze when it was calculating results! Too tired to do it again - will try again tomorrow!

First off the books, I too have read quite a few and now also can't decide what to read next myself. I can tell you the both Me Before You and The Lovely Bones were total tearjerker six that makes any difference, but still totally worth reading. And congrats on all you accomplished so far, too 😉

I've never really done resolutions. I tend to decide to do things sporadically throughout the year. I did decide this year to try and spend money only on necessities for the entire month of January, which became such a habit that it's carried over into the rest of the year, although not as strict.

I took a blogging break when we were at Disney World, and it felt great to me, too! It was the first time I took a vacation without my laptop.

I've noticed how much you've been published on other sites; that's a great accomplishment!

I was INFP in college, but was INFJ a few years ago. I think age and motherhood has made me less tolerant of peoples' crap and I have less time and brain cells to be "perceiving" or pondering or thoughtful about things. I fit the description of both of them pretty well though.

Jeannine (@EubanksEutopia) said...

Just linked up, sorry I'm late!!

Jeannine (@EubanksEutopia) said...

So I took it again and got INFP again! Weird. I was going through a rough time in my life a few years ago, but things are better and smoother now, so my "true" self must be coming back! ;)

Love how you are grading yourself! Makes me want to do it too! I've taken blogging breaks here and there too and they are so refreshing.

This is such a great idea, Lisa. I made some blogging resolutions as well for this year but haven't looked back on them in a while. Now (after reading your post), I'm kind of afraid to do so. Afraid I'll have to give myself poor grades on quite a few of them. :( I know what they are - and know I haven't done them yet. I've been so busy keeping up with current posts, etc. that I haven't done some of the new things I wanted to try. Your post is a great reminder that the year is already one-quarter over. That gives me 3 more - so I'd better get cracking. :) Thank you for the wonderful reminder, and congratulations on your excellent report card! You're doing great!

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

Good to know! I actually didn't pick The Lovely Bones - it was being discarded and someone else told me it was a great read, so I grabbed it. :-)

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

That's a great goal! I'm sure I could stand to do a better job of budgeting and spending wisely.

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

Thanks! I love blogging, but at times I let it take over too much. Then, it ends up being just another stressor. I think it's great to take a break once in a while.

Mushrooms are the one food Cassidy doesn't like. I don't like tomatoes at all, but I don't mind them in sauces and ketchups.
As for #7, how do you do on flights?

Jenessa Mullen said...

Great facts about yourself! I sleep on the opposite side of the bed and fall asleep on my left side. Also don't like mushrooms and wear a size 8 shoe - but I have never been on a plane!

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

No worries! Glad you added your link!

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

That's so intersting! When I took the full version in high school, I was an INFJ. Definitely makes you wonder what has changed us!

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

I do fine on flights, but I get nervous during take off & landing and I don't look out the window much. My kids think it is really weird that I eat tomato sauce & ketchup, but don't like tomatoes. :-)

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

We have disdain for mushrooms & shoes in common! :-)

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

I try to be discreet about picking hem out, but I just can't handle the thought of eating fungus. :-)

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

Ha! Exactly on the reunion thing - I'm friends with a lot of the on FB, but don't really want to hang out. Maybe the manufacturers are shrinking shoes and pants - that would explain a lot!! :-)

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

Same here! Even when we are away from home, we sleep on the same sides.
