Calgon, Take Me Away

It's Finish The Sentence Friday again and I almost didn't link up this week.  In fact, I posted in the FTSF Facebook group last night that I wouldn't be linking up this time.  It's been along week for a many reasons.

First of all, we had a couple of somewhat unexpected snow/ice days.  Monday, the kids were released from school 3 1/2 hours early.  Then, they were out on Tuesday and are out again today.  (As I type this, they are veggie out in front of the TV and I am praying the power holds out long enough for me to finish.)  These days turned the schedule upside down and threw me off my game.  (Not that I usually have "game," but I am a creature of habit and routine.  When you mess with my schedule, you mess with my brain!)

Secondly, my hubby has been out of town all week for work which meant all this schedule juggling had to be done by me, myself, and I (with a little help from my wonderful in-laws!).  As much as I do admit to enjoying some alone time occasionally when he's gone, five nights in a row is a lot.

Third, I started a new part time job about a month ago and I am still trying to adjust to the schedule.  (Full time working moms everywhere - I don't low how you do it.  Seriously.)  Between the new job and teaching a creative writing club at my daughter's middle school once a week, I went from having 2-3 "free" days a week to being lucky if I get one.

Also, my two oldest daughters (ages 9 and 11) go through cycles of fighting with each other.  This week they have been in a cycle of extreme fighting.  They cannot be in the same proximity of each other without being at each other's throats.  On top of that, my youngest who is only 6, has spent the week telling me that she thinks herself to be ugly and stupid.  That right there will break a mama's heart into a million pieces instantaneously.

Finally, I usually like to write my blog posts a couple days ahead, but with the crazy schedule, I just didn't have time this week.  I did, however, spend the week mulling over the topic for FTSF (or so I thought) and couldn't come up with anything for it.  So, at 8:45 last night, when I finally got the kids to bed and sat down on the couch in the quiet for a minute, I gave up and posted this little note to the Facebook group.

Immediately, these lovely blogging friends of mine came back with supportive comments.  Through their comments, though, I realized the topic I had been mulling over all week was the WRONG ONE!!  I had next week's topic on my mind, but this week's topic is actually "What I really want to scream out loud is . . . . . . "

So, when I crawled into bed a little after 10:00 last night listening the sleet pellets rap against the window, praying that my hubby would be able to land and drive home safely, re-playing the events of the week, and with both FTSF topics swirling in my head, I had a bit of an epiphany.

What I really want to scream out loud is/was . . . .

(For the record, my hubby did make it home safely last night arriving shortly after midnight.  This is a very good thing of many obvious reasons.  Also, the power DID NOT hold out long enough for me to finish this post.  Since he made it home, he was able to placate the children by starting the gas logs in the living room and I was able to connect t his mi-fi device for internet access so I could finish, publish, and link up this thing.  I have a feeling I will be screaming this mantra all. day. long.)

Absolutely without a doubt perfect and seriously Lisa, I remember and love those commercials. Whatever did happen to Calgon, because I think we could all use some of those relaxing baths once in awhile!! :)

Now as a parent I can imagine how irritated my mom must have been for me to beg to use her Calgon. I wanted to magic bath in the blue water. LOL! Good one Lisa. Glad you were able to link up. Sorry your part of NC is still getting yuck weather. We only had a 2 hour delay this week. We were the teeny strip on the map in the green ;-)

Amen sister. That is why I always have a lock on my bathroom door and bath salts in my cabinet.

Yay- look who's here! :) So glad you made it. And I LOVE your FTSF sentence. I second that- Calgon, take me away, too! I'm sorry you've had a rough week and adjustment to your new schedule. And more sorry about your sweet six year old's comment- it totally breaks a mama's heart. Hugs to you!

I'm totally crying as I read this because I just finished "The Light Between Oceans" and it is making me sob. So I came to blogs for comfort! And now I'm crying because of your poor beautiful six-year-old!
Oh Calgon - take me away too!
I had to work this week and with the full time kids thing, it was so hard! Rushing out the door to get two kids to two different places? And then working! And then picking them up from two different places. So hard.

Oh Lisa!! I'm so sorry about the snow days -we had two this week as well and, as you know, I do NOT do well with the whole "new schedule!" thing. At all. Also the working part-time and balancing volunteering at kids' school...yeah, I've thought so much about quitting my part time job because I don't have time for it but I also love it, mostly, sometimes, maybe. My boss is cool, anyway. And weep to your six year old. Hugs for that for sure.

Wow, you're juggling so many things! I hope your power situation gets better, and that the next week is awesome for you!

Sorry you had such a crappy week, but I forgot how many times I've screamed this one myself over the years lol. You're aging yourself with this one though - I wonder how many will read this and not know what you're referring to until they get to the clip. :) I was especially saddened to read about your 6-year old's comments. :( Hope a turn in the weather and your hubby being home to pitch in a bit will turn things around. {{HUGS}}

Breaks my hear, for sure. We'll keep working on it and thanks for the hugs!

After staying home for 11 years, I didn't realize how tough it would be to adjust to working a couple days a week. Seriously, hats off to those moms who work full time - don't know how they do it. Calgon for everyone!

Good thing about my job is that it is very flexible and it's an interim, so it's temporary. I am enjoying the job, but the schedule is kicking my butt. Hoping my little one is just going through "a phase" but it is not easy to hear, especially when I have self-image issues myself. Thanks for the hugs!

Thanks Tarana! We were without poser for about 36 hours. Nothing make you realize how dependent you are on something until you lose it! I hope next week is better, too!

Thanks so much! I'm sure there are plenty who don't remember those commercials! If I said that to my kids, they would have no idea what I was talking about. :-)

I've had plenty of those Calgon moments lately. I'm sorry your week was so rough, but it's never a loss when it gives you a blog post, right? :P

Oh, friend.. I am with you on this winter.. I'm loving the spring weather we're having right now but really? Crap weather in the forecast again this week?!

I am always eager for winter to end but this one has been particularly long! My children have had a total of 10 snow days, and we're getting snow again on Wednesday (it was 72* today!).

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

It has been one heck of a winter!

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

Yep! It was almost 80 here today and the predicted high for Thursday is 40!! Crazy!
