Tuesday Ten - Vacation Pictures

I usually write my Tuesday Ten posts on Sunday night.  This past Sunday night, however, I wrote this Facebook status instead:

We spent last week, Saturday to Saturday, at the beach with my husband's parents, his two younger brothers, the brothers' wives, and one of our nieces.  I kept telling myself that there has to be some kind of funny blog post in all that somewhere, right??  Well, I couldn't come up with anything.  I thought about "Ten Great Things About Vacation" but that seemed a bit cliche. Then, I thought about "Ten Terrible Things About Vacation," but it was a great week, I love my hubby's family, and there simply weren't ten terrible things to say.  So here it is, late on Monday - crunch time - and I've finally come up with something.  Something rather lame, but something I hope you will all enjoy nonetheless.  Instead of doing this Tuesday Ten and then doing another post filled with vacation pictures and happenings, I'm combining the two and bringing you . . . . . . . . .

Ten Pictures From Our Beach Vacation

#1 - I had taken a picture of Emily sitting on David's lap and then made a comment about how David NEVER smiles in pictures.  Emily said, "I'll make him smile!"  Nobody else in the whole world could get away with doing this, but anything for his littlest girl!

#2 - Emily spent quite a bit of time making this sand castle on her lap.  Then, she had me gather some shells that she used to decorate  the castle.  I asked her to pose for a picture and this is what I got!

#3 - My Mego!  She is always ready to pose for a picture and this one is quintessentially Megan!

#4 - David's family has had this tradition of spending a week at the beach for a very long time.  I started going with them over 15 years ago before we were even married.  Back then, these two guys were middle schoolers.  Now, they are my daughters' uncles.  They are both married themselves and will have children of their own in the near future, I'm sure.  I loved this moment when I caught them digging in the sand with the kids.  My how time flies!

#5 - My super cool hubby!

#6 - Megan tried laying out in the sun like the teenage girls do.  It is a very rare thing to see her being still for any length of time.  This particular day, I would say she was pretty tired and she actually stayed like this for about 5 minutes!

#7 - The last two days we were there, the girls started digging a hole.  Then, they kept digging and digging.  At the end of the first day, we made them fill it in.  The next day, they spent a couple hours digging another one. They worked together and had so much fun.  They were very proud of how deep they made the hole.

#8 - I had to include this one even though it is a little hazy.  My big girl hates to have her picture taken.  She was so proud of the hole she had dug, though, that she actually posed for this one with a smile!

#9 - Another picture of the girls and their hole.  I love that Emily decided to stick out her tongue.  She has really become a little comedian lately and this is a perfect example!

#10 - The only negative thing about the week was that the ocean was really rough almost every day.  We only got to go out deep a couple times.  However, even when the water is rough, there is something calming about the sound of the crashing waves.

#Bonus - If you follow me on Facebook, you have already seen this picture.  It's up there in my new header, too.  I had just said to David on our last day that I really wanted to get a picture of all three girls together, but they were having so much fun at the moment that I didn't want to disturb them.  Lo and behold, just a little while later, they called me over to take a picture of them in the hole they had dug!!  It's a great picture, don't you think???

My son loves to dig at the beach too. It looks like their holes ended up going very deep.

I love beach pics too. My kids still like digging holes and building things in the sand even though they are teenagers now. Its like being at the beach gives them permission to be a kid again!

Love the beach pics, since I'm a lover of the beach. It's funny to read that the only negative is that it was rough. When the kids get a little older, it being rough will be the biggest positive!

Great pictures! Looks like a fun vacation :) I love the beach, but I have yet to go this summer...and I only live 45 minutes away from one!

Beautiful girls! I'm so glad that you had an enjoyable vacation, Lisa. (Regarding photo #6: any moment when a perpetually-moving child becomes still is photo-worthy...) ;)
