Did you know that today is National Con't Cry Over Spilled Milk day?!?
When we saw that weird holiday, we thought it would be fun to do a Tuesday Ten about the things that make us cry. Even though I'm the one who picked this topic (I think), the truth is that I'm not a cryer. If you catch me crying, chances are it's something pretty bad or something really, really good. I rarely shed tears over much of anything and I actually had a really hard time thinking of 10 things to put on my list!
- Onions - I've tried everything from "onion glasses" to holding my breath, but nothing helps. Every time I chop an onion, the tears start rolling.
- My kids - My kids make me cry for different reasons. Sometimes, it's because they frustrate me or make me angry. Sometimes, it's because of some milestone that is passing. Sometimes, I cry because they are crying and I can't fix whatever it is. Sometimes, it's because I love them so much and I'm terrified that I am completely doing this motherhood thing wrong.
- Music - Although I'm not musically talented, I love music and it expresses emotions in a way that I can't always do. Occasionally, a song will remind me of something and the tears start to flow.
- Laughing - Who doesn't love to laugh so hard you cry? Fortunately, I do this often.
- PMS - As I said, I'm not usually a cryer, so if you catch me sobbing, there's a good chance I'll blame it on hormones!
- Psoriasis makes me cry which is why this post was hard for me to write.
- Other Bloggers make me cry sometimes - like this post from Kristi or this one from Chris. Words are powerful.
- My GIFT girls. GIFT is the name of a Bible study group at my church. We are women, mothers, and friends. We say "What happens in GIFT stays in GIFT." We also say "It's not GIFT unless somebody cries." Somebody usually does and, in that environment, tears are contagious.
(Now, I'm stumped! Can we change this to Tuesday Eight?? No? Then, I'll have to dig deep!)
9. Sometimes, movies make me cry. I almost cried during Frozen. The Blind Side and Hope Floats always make me cry no matter how many times I watch them.
10. Alleriges kind of make me cry. They make my eyes get really itchy and watery. I have weird allergies that are sometimes very randomly triggered. To others, it probably looks like I've been crying! (O.K. I know that's not really crying, but I needed a #10!)
What about you? Are you a cryer?? Link up and tell us what brings tears to your eyes!

Laughing so hard until I cry is the best form of crying, but PMS totally gets me pretty much every time, too unfortunately!
Music is one of my big ones, too! The best kind of crying is the laughing kind. :)
Other bloggers make me cry too! And in particular Kristi and Chris! And music - a song will remind me of soemthing and the tears will flow. A very relatable list Lisa!
When I started doing my list of things that make me cry, I was so focused on it that I forgot all about laughing. So glad you included it on your list. And onions! How did I forget about that one? Your list is excellent and I love it! :D
Onions get me every time. Well, pretty much everything on your list is on mine! :)
I'm not a huge crier. Onions get me though. Every time. And my kids if they're really being terrible. I mean sweet. I do cry every time I watch a Disney parade even if it's on TV. I think it started the first time I watched my then 3 year old son watch his first Disney parade...sigh.
A good tear-inducing laugh is life's best medicine. And music... I completely forgot about how moving and beautiful music can be. Great list! Tears aren't always bad.
I am totally a cryer... oh man. Funny thing though, I still had trouble with this list. :P Totally there with you on #4, #5 and #10!
I've become more of a crier as I've gotten older - I think that's because growing up I never ever let anyone see me cry and it took me years to be OK with showing emotion in front of people. Now I cry during lots of books!
Thanks for hosting, and I was very happy to link up today! Onions make me worse than cry. It burns! I don't like them so I don't generally work with them but I'm so sensitive to it that I can cry just by walking into the kitchen when Cassidy is chopping onions!
And my kids make me cry probably more than anything.
The laughing is the best! My kids and hubby keep me in tears - in a good way! :-)
Sometimes it gets me, and sometimes it doesn't - but when it does - Look Out! :-)
Yes, that is the best kind!
Thanks Ilene!
That's my favorite one, too!
Thanks Marcia! I had a hard time thinking of ten, but those two had to be on the list! :-)
Thanks Julie! I've even tried wearing sunglasses while I chop onions and it doesn't make any difference~
Funny how kids can make us cry in many different ways!
Yes it is! Tears certainly can be therapeutic.
When I thought of the topic, i didn't realize how hard it would be!
I tend to cry when nobody is looking!
I'm so glad you linked up today! Onions always get me. I didn't used to like them, but I actually craved them during my first pregnancy and have been eating them ever since!
On no!! Well, at least now you know you are not the only one crying about something!
Lisa, I don't know how I missed this post, but oh, my heart goes out to you. I've dealt with psoriasis since I was around 10, too, and I still do. (I went into remission during each pregnancy, then flared back up terribly post-partum, which is precisely what you want when you have a newborn and are hormonally unbalanced, right?)
Thanks for sharing this. And please let me day this, from the heart, you're beautiful.
RE: Number 6. How did I ever miss this post? I jumped over there and left another comment for you, my friend.
OMG that scene in Hope Floats when her dad is driving away without her is a heartbreaker. I can easily cry from laughter, being mad or sad - the emotion just wells up in my eyes first. I hate that because my eyes are so telling. I remember when my mom was dropping me off as a freshman in college. She couldn't stay because she wasn't feeling good at all. I was trying to be strong and the only way I was able to hold back big crocodile tears was to put on my sunglasses. She put hers on too ;-) (it runs in the family). My eyes are wet right now and I'm about to sniff.
I knew you were going to do something awesome with this, Lisa! It still cracks me up that it's National Cry over Spilled Milk day! I wonder if I can figure a way to link this with FTSF this week...because this is awesome! I love that you laugh so hard that you cry so often and that you have such a great Bible group. And, I really appreciate the shout-out, so much. Thanks huge for that.
The thought of kids growing up makes me cry, a lot. I'm totally cool with my own kids getting older, but I'm having a crisis that some of Malone's friends are turning FIVE this year (he is too btw). I'm a MESS just thinking about how big his peers have gotten (a lot of them we have known since birth)
I am a crier by nature. I cry at the drop of a hat. I started crying just THINKING about that post from Chris about her daughter and swimming. Oh, sheesh...here I go again! --Lisa
It sucks -plain and simple. My middle daughter doesn't have psoriasis, but she had severe eczema. She cries when Io make her put on lotion and just the smell of the shampoos bring back bad memories for me. I try to keep a stiff upper lip for her, though!
Thank you Robin! My psoriasis is beginning to come back a tad on my palms and my scalp, but I am hoping it won't come back in full force. It is comforting to know that I am not alone and that others share my angst over it. You and I have quite a bit in common, but I wish this wasn't on the list! :-)
Thanks Robin!
Aw! I think it does run in families - mine is not particularly emotional, so neither am I.
You're welcome! As you can tell from ,y list, there's not too much that makes me cry, so the bloggers that do (in a good way) are very special people! :-) That would be awesome if you worked it into FTSF!
That gets to me too sometimes. I see a friend's child and think "Hey! When did he get so big? He's supposed rob e a bay still!"
:-) Go think about something happy!
You guys have the most creative link-up! If I can get it together, I will join in. I LOL'd when I saw the button with the onions. Really cute.
I cry watching movies all the time. I cried at the end of The LEGO Movie. Seriously! I guess I'm sentimental. My kids make me cry, for so many reasons, good and bad! :)
Thanks Rachel We would love for you to join!
Agreed - the kids can elicit good cries and bad ones! Haven't seen the LEGO movie yet!
