Thirty Things - Post #2 - Strengths and Weaknesses

Back in March, I embarked on the #30 Things Challenge with a list of Twenty Random Facts About Me in an attempt to get back to the core reason I started blogging: my girls.  Then, I did exactly what I was trying to get away from and got so wrapped up in blogging about other things, I have not been back to the challenge in nearly two months!  Well, it's time!

Today, as part of the challenge, I am sharing what I feel are five strengths and five weaknesses I have.

I used to feel awkward sharing my strengths.  It felt too much like bragging.  As I get older, though, I am learning that there is a difference between bragging and embracing your gifts.  So here are five things I view as my strengths.

  1. I'm organized - This is a good thing because I am CEO (Chief Executive Organizer) in the Spoon House.  I make the appointments, get everyone where they need to go, and keep up with all the schedules.  I make a to-do list every day - no kidding!  I also make lists when I pack or when I shop or blog or, really, do just about anything.
  2.  I'm smart - I have a college degree and I can carry on an intelligent conversation with others. In the throes of motherhood, when I spend some days talking to nobody but kids, this is easy to forget.
  3. I'm compassionate - I care about other people.  I am moved by the stories of others and I want to help people, especially those, like children, who cannot help themselves.
  4. I'm a good leader/director - I am not afraid to be a committee chairperson or put together an event.  I know how to make decisions and how to utilize volunteers efficiently.
  5. I'm good with words - This one comes in really handy for blogging!  I'm a good writer and a good speaker.  Others have often come to me for proofreading or suggestions for wording.  Not only is it a talent I have, it is something I love!
And, now for my weaknesses.
  1. I am impatient - Right now, we are renovating a room in the house.  It is slow going and it is driving me nuts!  Even though I knew when we started that it would take a while, I still just want it done. I'm that way with a lot of things in life - I don't like to wait.
  2. I'm a scaredy cat - I don't like change and I don't like to try new things.  I don't ride roller coasters, for example.  I get nervous on airplanes or when traveling to a new place.  Heights make me uncomfortable and I'm rather claustrophobic.
  3. I'm not crafty - Just recently, my oldest daughter needed an astronaut costume for a school project.  I did peruse Pinterest briefly, but I was more than willing to pay $40 to rent a costume rather than try to make a paper mache an astronaut helmet myself.  The few times I have tried something crafty, I have failed - miserably!
  4. I let things go to avoid confrontation - Usually confrontation is a bad thing, but, sometimes, confrontation is necessary.  However, I avoid it like the plague!  There have been several times when I should have addressed things, but, instead, let them going without speaking up because I didn't want to cause conflict or confront anyone.
  5. I'm insecure - For example, I made this second list much more quickly than the first one.  I have a terrible habit of comparing myself to others and I have a real jealous streak that I try to keep under control.  I think it comes, mostly from a sense of insecurity.  I have written before about dealing with psoriasis and the subsequent lack of self esteem.  I always worry if people like me or if I am doing things in a way that is pleasing to others.
What are some of your strengths and weaknesses??  Do you see any of them reflected in your children??

That's a great list....I always seem to have an easier time talking about my weaknesses than my strengths. Talking about my strengths seems a little like bragging/boasting, you know?

FYI: I'm doing this challenge all this month over on my blog, Snapshots of a Life :)

So impatient here and definitely not very crafty either. So, can very much relate on those big time!

I feel like we have a lot of similarities with the weaknesses! Not sure if the not crafty thing bothers me enough to call it a weakness, though. More of a disinterest for me!
However I hate confrontation of all forms!
