Old School Blogging - March 2015

I saw a couple of my blog friends answering these questions on their blogs and I need to post something light, fun, and easy, so I decided to play along!

If you could be on a reality show which one would you choose?
It would be easier to tell you which ones I would NOT be on. I would not be on Survivor because I don't enjoy "roughing it." I also would most certainly NOT be on that Discovery Channel show, Naked and Afraid. I am a housewife (although I hate that term), but I would not be on any of those Real Housewives of . . shows because I am far too boring. I would love to be on The Voice or American Idol, but alas, I have no musical talent. Actually, I have no real talents, so I can't be on America's Got Talent or X Factor either. So, what's left? Maybe Big Brother?? That's not really my cup of tea, either, but at least it does't require eating bugs or making a complete fool of myself on stage. What I would really like is to be on one of those home renovation shows where you're in the hardware store and they choose you for a complete bathroom/kitchen/yard renovation and it's completely free!!

Name one thing you have saved from your childhood?
Thanks to my mom, I have lots of things saved from childhood. My daughters have actually played with several of my old dolls, including my Cabbage Patch Kids. I also have a plastic bin in the attic that is full of old trophies and awards. The only thing from my childhood that I see on a daily basis is this decorative plate. It used to hang in my grandmother's kitchen and, now it hangs in mine.

If your life had a theme song what would it be?
This one is tough because there are so many great songs and I think different songs fit my life at different times. I needed a little help so I decided to do what Kim did and take this Buzzfeed quiz to determine my Personal theme song (because we all know I love those Buzzfeed quizzes!) According to the quiz, my theme song should be Don't Stop Believin' by Journey because "You have never once stopped believin’. I hate to admit it ,but that statement is so incredibly not true. So, instead of that one, I'm going with the same one Rabia chose - Manic Monday by the Bangles.

Where is your happy place?
I have a couple happy places - it just depends on my mood. Sometimes, my happy place is sitting at a coffee shop with my laptop and a caramel macchiato. Sometimes, my happy place is snuggled up on the couch watching a movie with my family. Sometimes, my happy place is my bed when I am tired and I can snuggle up under the covers and finally relax.

What is one thing about your home that you and your spouse disagree on?
Our kitchen table. We live in the house where he grew up. When we bought it from his parents, we "inherited" several furniture pieces, one of which was the kitchen table. It is scratched and has some marks on it - including some of his own homework carved in to the wood. I say it is worn and we need a new one. He says it has history and likes watching his children do homework on the same table he and his siblings did. I see his point, but I would still like a new table.

What is your favorite fruit?
To eat raw, I would say grapes. My favorite fruit "flavor," however, would be cherry.

Bowtie or regular tie?
I'm a traditional gal and I prefer a regular tie. I'm not a huge fan of the bowtie.

Mexican or Italian (food, not men)?
Both. Either. Today I had Mexican for lunch and Italian for supper.

Where do you want to go on Summer vacation?
Do I have to wait until summer?? Really, I could use a vacation right now. My husband and I have actually been discussing where we could go for a long weekend kind of thing. Our biggest problem is finding a time on the calendar when we are both free to go for 3-4 days in a row.

If I could choose anywhere and magically transport myself there right this moment, it would look something like this . . . . . .

What are your go-to shoes in your closet?
Black Clark's. Not too formal; not too casual. Except, if I was at that beach in the picture. Then, I wouldn't be wearing any shoes at all.

Added Bonus Question: When it comes to St Patrick's Day, do you do celebrate in any special way?
I'm adding this question for myself so that I can call this a Finish the Sentence Friday post, but the answer is, "no." I do not do anything special for St. Patrick's day. I will try to wear green and dress my kids in green if I actually remember that it's a special day, but that's pretty much it. How about you?

This is a dual purpose post because I am the ultimate multi-tasker.

The first 10 questions in this post are from Old School Blogging hosted by Elaine at the Miss Elaine-ous Life.

This post is also part of the Finish the Sentence Friday Linkup. This week's sentence was "When it comes to St. Patrick's Day . . . . " This week's FTSF hostesses are Kristi, Kelly, and Lisa.

I love that you added in that last line to make it a FTSF post, too! Seriously though, I may have to do this as I have been in a bit of a rut this week writing wise and could use something easy to write and share for next week myself.

You definitely win the multi-tasking award for this post, Lisa! I love posts like this because they are such a great way to learn more about the person behind the blog. I love the plate from your Grandmother's kitchen - my grandmother may have had that saying somewhere in hers, too. It's true in many homes, I think. The kitchen is the real heart for many.
Manic Monday - always appropriate around here. Even on Tuesday, Wednesday...
I'm with your husband on the table thing - my Grandmother's kitchen table was exactly like that with all the history. We picked our first table when we got married for just that reason - so it, too, would absorb and bear the signs of our family's life. Maybe that one plus a new one for a dining room? If you have two?
The most excited we'll get about St. Patrick's Day is whatever my daughter's school does there and my daughter's cute t-shirt with shamrocks listening to musck - sham-rock. Too cute.
Have a great weekend!

I like the dual post! I though I'd have trouble coming up with St. Paddy's Day essay, but once I started typing (and griping), I pulled it out. I love Q&A posts. I need a vacation, too. The sunset looks so inviting.

Awesome multitasking! I'm a fan of Manic Monday, Clarks shoes, and beach vacations. If only my husband liked the beach, too!

Okay, I kind of love that you have that table. But maybe you could make it the "homework table" in another part of the house and get a new dining table? I know that is probably not the case, just trying to compromise. Marriage is all about compromise. ;) And I have my Cabbage Patch Kids too, I forgot about those! HA! Thanks for linking up!!

Manic Monday is a great song and would fit our life right now too. And though I love the beach, you happy places sound just wonderful to me, too.

Yes yes yes, I would love to be on Trading Spaces. Does the show still come on? I wouldn't survive a minute once I had to eat something weird. I'd die! Or that other show I can't remember what it was where people would do daring stuff like sit in a tub with snakes etc. No thank you. I see both of your points on that kitchen table. We've only had ours for about 14 years but it could use replacing but I'd miss it yet I still want a new one and don't at the same time.

I wanted to do FTSF, but had nothing on the topic. I wanted to do this list anyway, so I figured I would just make it work!

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

Thanks, Lisa! And, yes - Manic Monday every day. :-)

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

I'd give my right arm to be sitting there on that beach watching that sunset tonight. Well, maybe not my actual arm, but you know what I mean! :-)

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

I was never a beach person because my parents hated it and we never went growing up. Then I married David and it is his family's tradition - everyone in a big beach house for one whole week every summer!

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

Definitely about compromise! I love the memories of the table, too. I guess it's just that they are this memories - although now my daughters are doing homework on the same table, so I suppose I just need to learn how to embrace it!

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

Yeah, the beach would be great, but I would be completely happy with a couple hours in that coffee shop right now.

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

Oh yeah! I had forgotten about that show - Fear Factor wasn't it??? I could NEVER do that. Thanks for understanding about the table!

Kenya G. Johnson said...

Yep - fear factor! For no amount of money could you put me in a tank with my worse fear - caterpillars. I don't think I'd ever recover and spend all my money on therapy.

I remember a Survivor episode when they were supposed to drink 100 year old eggnog. First, guessing nobody saved eggnog for 100 years and second, it made me puke a little bit so um no I could never be on any of those shows. Also the table I have is my dad's from when I was a kid. I used to cover it with a table cloth and nobody knew how worn and awful it looks but then Tucker happened and I haven't used a table cloth on it since on a regular basis. I want a new one but it's Ethan Allen and I think my dad payed like $3500 for it in 1970 so I feel guilty not keeping it.
Thanks for linking up and including a St. Pat's question!

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

Ours is an Ethan Allen, too!!! And, yes, a very "sturdy, expensive" piece of furniture. I have tried the table cloth as a compromise, but that doesn't work very well with kids. I guess you can't put a price (or a tablecloth) on memories! (Wow! That was so excessively cheesy!)

Seamless transition between the two links! Well done. I'm with you on the reality show front. Fear Factor? Nooooooooo. Especially when in the later shows they went with the bikini babes. I maybe could do The Amazing Race. I think I'd choose either my daughter or my son to do it with me. We'd have some HUGE arguments but what's new about that? It'd be like old home week and be lovely to spend some time with them. Love your song choice.

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

Thanks, Kelly! I think I could maybe do the amazing race if I had the right partner, except I'm totally chicken when it comes to things like heights.

I love that plate from your grandmother's kitchen. I have my grandmother's pyrex mixing bowls and I love them, it reminds me of her whenever I cook.

Tamara Bowman said...

I was so confused at first that I was on the wrong blog because of Manic Monday! It's such a good pick.
I really love your happy place. Caramel latte for me!
And I so hear you on the reality shows.

Anna Fitfunner said...

Agreed that I'm not much for reality shows; and I like Mexican and Italian foods. We'll do a little bit of St. Patrick's Day celebration. Usually focused around what the kids are doing for school. But nothing really crazy.

MamaRabia said...

I would totally love to be on a reality show with a home makeover! why didn't I think of that!?!

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

Yes, I am reminded of her kitchen every time I am in mine. :-)

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

Yay!!! So cool that our grandmothers had the same thing and so happy that it made you smile!

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

Yeah I guess I could have done 4 linkups - FTSF, OSB, Manic Monday, and AAF!!! :-) I'm a multi tasker like that.

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

Yeah - now that my kids are older, there aren't many St. Patrick's day celebrations, but we did remember to wear green!

Lisa @ The Golden Spoons said...

Ha! Well, I cheated - I only though of that after I read Elaine's post. :-)
